Novelty Contact Lenses...For Your Wild Side

Is your life a little dull and boring? Need something to give it a little extra pizzazz. Novelty contact lenses might do the trick for you.

Novelty contact lenses can give you a new and unique look, whether it's for everyday wear or for going out and having a good time. They can offer the aesthetic appeal of tattoos and body piercing while avoiding the pain, permanence, or health concerns involved in body modification. They’re also relatively cheap to buy and easy to find. Some specific novelty contact lenses can be a little tougher to hunt down.

One of the more popular styles for novelty contact lenses is the cat eye lens. The effect of the cat eye lens is to elongate your pupil to a cat-like slit, usually filling in your iris in green or yellow.  The effect is amazing, especially if it’s somewhat subtle. Often time’s people wearing cat eye lenses will catch a double take from people across the room. They’ll glance at the wearer and look away before their minds register what they just saw.

Another trendy alternative for novelty contact lenses is the black out or white out lens. The black out lens gives the appearance of having a completely dilated pupil since it blacks out your iris, making it look like you have huge pupils. One possible negative side effects of this type of lens is that some may think you are stoned, since the side effects of taking drugs are dilated pupils. White out lenses also completely covers up the iris, but they make your iris appear white instead of black. The effect is similarly shocking, since it’s so unnatural to see someone without any iris whatsoever.

A wide range of other designs can be found for novelty contact lenses, from the mundane to the extreme. Circuit board contacts give their wearer the appearance of a robot or an android, making them a popular choice for science fiction fans or Halloween parties. Polka-dotted contact lenses give their wearer a diseased or deranged look, while flowers or smiley faces make an immediate visual impact. Of course, novelty contact lenses don’t always go to such extremes; colored contact lenses can come in novelty ranges or even as everyday prescription lenses, allowing anyone to have the eye color of their dreams.  Colored contact lenses don’t only come in browns, blues, greens, and hazels either; honey-colored or purple lenses make a subdued but impressive visual statement.

Keep in mind that novelty contacts aren’t appropriate for some employers or social occasions, as the more extreme designs tend to unnerve or disturb some people. However, they make for excellent conversation pieces, and the more natural lenses are great for everyday use regardless of the situation or occasion.

So if you're looking for a way to spice up your life a little, novelty contact lenses just might fit the bill!
